INFECTIOUS MONONUCLEOSIS is also known as glandular fever, Pfeiffer’s disease. It was first made known in 1920, by Sprunt and Evans in the Bulletin of John Hopkins Hospital. Then, it was described as mononuclear leukocytosis, being that EBV had yet to be described as the causative organism. Infectious mononucleosis is caused by Epstein Barr Virus (EBV).
