THE METAMORPHOSIS OF MR JOSH

Uncle of life I’m yet to receive the money you promised! Lil nephew I’ve been busy. Moreover, I put money in one business and I’m expecting return. But do one thing for me, borrow from friend I’ll reimburse you when you arrive. Alright uncle. I’ve been given VISA, and I’ve resigned in my place of work. Be expecting me on the third of August.

Wow! So fast. Is it morning flight or…. Uncle it’s night flight. Call me when you leave Nigeria so that I can wait for you at the embassy. Alright uncle.
Who was that nigga you were talking to on phone? My nephew from Nigeria. Is he coming to America? Yes. Have you told Anita? No, do I have to tell her! Yes, you need to. That girl is dangerous. If you misbehave she can send you back to Nigeria.

What kind of trouble is this? One is living in a foreign land like a slave. No, you just made a mistake, we are indeed slaves. These ladies are our remote control. It’s whatever they want we must do else we find ourselves in Muritala Mohammed Airport (MMA). How will I tell her now? You just have to.

Brother mi what’s up? Nothing o aburo, only that I’ll be flying like birds in the next couple of days. I don’t understand? I told you I was processing a VISA, and I was given just last week. So if I don’t come to your house you wouldn’t tell me? Excuse me! I asked you to come so that I can get you inform. See, egbon (Brother) this idea of travelling doesn’t make sense o. The uncle that we’ve not seen for a decade just ask you to come and you fall for it. You don’t even know what he’s doing over there!

‘See Gbenga, what he’s doing doesn’t matter, what matter is, what I’m going to do if I get there.’ But you are okay brother mi! Tell me, how many of your age mate are living in two bed room flat? How many of them is fortunate to have an industrious lady like kike as fiancée? ‘You cannot understand little brother.’ I don’t know why you people can’t see this from my own perspective? Fine, I’m working; but is there security on the job? Obviously, no.

There’s security on your own job because you are working with federal government. But, you also got the opportunity to work with federal government; you rejected it because of the pay. ‘Yes, I did because the money is small’ Brother J! the Americana. You are just talking aburo. But this flat screen television na me go carry am o. You are free, it is all yours. That’s why I love you brother mi.

Anita baby, Henry did you prepare anything? I’m hungry! Babe there’s food in the kitchen. Henry the food is cold, come and put it in the microwave for me.
You see Anita I want to ask you for one thing. And what’s that? My cousin from Nigeria would be coming to America in three days, and I want him to stay with us for a while before he settles down. Why didn’t you get me involved before now?

Anita I’m sorry it escaped my mind. Then tell him not to come now. Give me some time to think about it. I told you everything is set; he’s flight is in two days. You really want him to come? Yes. No problem. Thanks Anita. Don’t thank me yet until you see the end of the episode.

Kike, please don’t miss me too much. Just be praying for me. I still don’t know why he could not see what I’m seeing but if I talked he may get angry, let me just keep my mouth shut, she thought. Kike! I’ve been talking to you what are you thinking about? Nothing. He drew her closer and planted a kiss on her cheek for the first time since they’ve been dating. She felt at home in his harms. I would come back for you. I know you will, she replied.  Bye Kike.

What did she say? She said if I want him to come, he should come. Oh that’s great. That’s not great! What do you mean? I thanked her thereafter, but she said I shouldn’t do that until I see the end of the episode! What do you intend to do? Nothing, the boy’s flight had already taken off. What will I do? Honestly, I don’t have any idea. And you know my own case is more terrible than yours if not that I would have said he should stay with us.

Of course I know you are dealing with a mad dog! How dare you call my wife a mad dog? Did you just say your wife! Are you telling me if you get your paper today you won’t divorce her? That’s none of your business.

In the next couple of hours, I’ll become an Americana. As soon as I settle down I would send for Kike, he thought.
Anita! Where’s my cell phone? I'm using it. But I told you my nephew would be landing today? And I told you to give me time to think about it but you didn’t listen. Anita please, you just have to understand please. If you dare step out of this house today, that means you are stepping into Nigeria.

To be continued...

IT MATTER

IT MATTER! The topic to be discussed today is ‘it matter’, but the question is, what matters? Join me as we look into this deeply.  When I was in secondary school my Agricultural science teacher taught us then GERMINATION and the factor responsible for growth. Some of the factors are: viable seeds, moisture or water, nutrient (soil) and air (oxygen) When I meditatively considered these factors I realized that not even one out of them is un-important. If any of them isn’t available then the seed growth or germination is in jeopardy. Applying this into our lives’ journey as humans, it is evident that some factors also responsible for our own growth in every endeavors of life. Some take this serious while some others don’t.  When I say growth I do not mean increase in the number of age. Neither do I mean increase in stature. We grow in business, career, and ministry and so on. For us to grow in life we need to take these factors seriously. For instance the viability of th

MY LOCAL FRIEND

We started this series last week when we talked about ‘lessons from a game of football.’ The capsule overview of last week post is the fact that in a game of football they have a common goal, which is to win. And we established that if at all victory would be their friend then there is a need for them to work as a team. Here is a personal experience shared by a very good friend of mine: I have many friends both in my town and neighboring town. Some of them are educated while some are not. There was a time I went for a conference outside my town. I met new friends at the conference whose exposure transcend some of my friends at home. I needed to get their contacts but both my subscriber identity module (SIM) and phone storage were completely full. A thought cropped up in my mind to delete two of those my friends’ contact. I wanted to delete two numbers, a guy number who was a drop out of secondary school and one ot

SEEDS

I remember when I started teaching as a side hustle. I didn't really take it serious. The first student I encountered,  just walk up to me for asistance, and I taught him at no cost. The last time I met him, he is already a graduate. After I graduated from the university I taught in one, two, three or four places. But those seeds I sowed then jokingly have become trees, I mean  big trees. Just last month I met two of my students in one of the reputable university in Nigeria; one is studying Chemical engineer and the other Computer science. Those were the one I taught between 2017 and 2018. Some of the students I taught between 2015 and 2016 had graduated from universities while some are in their final year. Some of my students are still in secondary schools and they are doing fine. I have students that are not in school but follow their passion either as singers, comedian, etc. and they are as well doing fine. Why am I telling you this? Is it for show, or perhaps to
